Here are the answers to the Homeostasis review...sorry they are on so late, but you crammers might get this tonight :)
Answers to review

Sunday, May 30, 2010

I have posted some new notes here. You'll need these notes for this upcoming week.

Thursday, May 27, 2010

If you are checking today for a new note, I am unable to copy the links to my notes today for some reason....I'm trying to find out what's going on, but for now, you don't have to worry about printing a new note. Just make sure you have the one urine formation note that has been posted there for awhile now.

Good morning students. Today you will work on your evolution "story" project. Spend some time researching the evolution concepts that are outlined in the project from the zoo. Then begin to create your evolutionary story that explains how the environmental pressures selected for the traits/adaptations in your fictional animal.

If you don't have your zoo handout, you can find the activity at www.torontozoo.com. Click on Schools, then Secondary Level Students, then the Grade 12 Evolution Activity.

Also, note that there are some new notes for the Homeostasis unit posted here on the blog. Please print these for Tuesday. Have a great long weekend!

I've fixed up the links to the Evolution notes...hopefully they don't get messed up again. Please let me know if any of them don't work.

Here are the answers to the two reviews for your viewing pleasure. Good luck with your studying...this is an important test...so use all your best study strategies tonight.

Protein Syn and Biotech Review Answers

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Today we went over the note on Biotechnology from Tuesday....it appears many of you were away that day. Please complete the textbook questions for homework (p. 281 #1,2,4,5 and p. 282 #8). Your bST project will be presented next Wednesday, so make sure you are in contact with your partner and you are working toward completing this project. Ask me for help with this if necessary!

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Just some updates to the course schedule...
Remember that you should be working on your research of the BST issue when you have time. Your protein synthesis performance task will take place on Friday, so you should have all your work up to date, your notes organized, and bring all your resources with you to class on Friday.
There is new note under the Class Notes section called "Biotechnology Note" that you will want to have for Tuesday April 27th class.

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Students have been working on their "dramatic representation" of DNA replication. These will be performed - and videotaped - on Wednesday.
We also have begun looking at protein synthesis. We've compared DNA to RNA and discussed the genetic code and transcription.
Please read sections 5.1 to 5.3 if you haven't done so already and complete the questions at the end of the protein synthesis note.

Thursday, April 8, 2010

For students not in attendance today, please complete all work related to DNA replication (worksheet, watch the online animations of the process). Think about how you will work with the students in your class to demonstrate DNA replication through a "dramatic representation". You will work on this presentation tomorrow. You will also begin to study protein synthesis so be sure to come to class with the protein synthesis note that is posted under class notes. I've also posted a DNA review that you can do anytime before the test on this unit.

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Today we began to study the new unit "Molecular Genetics". We discussed Hershey & Chase's experiment and the structure of DNA. There are some homework questions to do and a diagram of DNA (page 216, #2,3,4,6,7).

Sunday, April 4, 2010

There are some DNA notes posted now under the class notes section. You'll need the DNA note for Tuesday. Hope you are enjoying this beautiful weekend!

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Here are the answers to the test review. Sorry for the lateness in posting this...I just remembered to do it now.

Today we finished studying photosynthesis with a look at the Calvin Cycle. Please complete the diagram package, the textbook questions and your cell respiration map for homework this weekend.

Here is a review you can begin working on for next week's test. Note: this is a long review, pick and choice the questions you find most difficult.

Thursday, March 25, 2010

For those of you interested in registering for Discovery Health Days at UWO and Fanshawe on May 7th, here is the website for registering for workshops. I've registered the school and am now waiting for an email response explaining how you can go about registering for workshops. Stay tuned, and get those permission forms into me ASAP.

This week we have finished our study of cellular respiration (both aerobic and anaerobic). We are now working on learning the metabolic pathways of photosynthesis. Students are reminded that their cell respiration maps are due on Monday and your test will be on Wednesday next week.

Monday, March 22, 2010

During the week before March Break we finished up studying aerobic cellular respiration and then we discussed metabolic rate, alternative pathways for nutrients such as triglycerides and amino acids.
Today we discussed anaerobic respiration (a.k.a., fermentation). Students completed a fill in the blank worksheet on ethanol and lactic acid fermentation. They are now working on textbook questions (see under the Homework section) and their cell respiration maps. These "maps" will be due next Monday. Tomorrow is a work period for the text questions and the map.

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

We've started the second part of the first unit this week. On Monday we disussed an overview of cellular respiration. Note: this is chapter 2 of your textbook. On Tuesday we worked through Glycolysis - the first stage of cell respiration. Make sure that you are keeping up with textbook readings throughout the next few weeks of class. Also, make sure that you are paying attention to the "big picture" ideas in cellular respiration and not getting frustrated with all the little minute details of the stages that you DON'T need to memorize for future assessments.
